AFGA intends that Afghan adolescents and youth are aware of reproductive health and rights and have access to related information and services. Currently AFGA provides RH and Adolescent information and education through one Youth Information Center located in Kabul City.

Youth Information Center

AFGA has established Youth Information Center in collaboration with Union of Afghan Youth in the center of Kabul city on 12th  of August 2006. The main aim of the center is to provide Reproductive and Adolescent education  and information to youth. AFGA rehabilitated the center( including water supply system) , furnished it with required supply and equipment. The qualified staff ( male and female counsellors) are hired, and trained on general counselling , and communication skills by AFGA .

The center has three rooms ( counselling room , waiting room and library ) and is open to all Afghan youth. The Deputy Minster of Public Health for Reproductive Health and Mother and Child Dr. Nadera Hayat Burhani attended the opening ceremony and cut the ribbon along with other officials.

The center has provided counselling and awareness to more than 170 youths . More than 127 youth attended different awareness workshop conducted in the center during the period. The following are main activities of the center:

 

Providing awarenss and counselling to youth on:

  • Drug abuse and its impact on health.

  • Prevention of HIV/AIDS and Sexualy Transmitted Infections ( STIs).

  • Family planning awarenss for married youth.

  • Pre  and post marriage counselling.

  • Role and responsibilties of youth in the family and community.

  • Training and follow up of Peer Educators.

  • Referral of youth for different services to  the appropriate centers.

  • Distribution  of different IEC materials.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


AFGA has trained 30 youths (20 female and 10 male ) from 8 districts of Kabul city as Peer Educators during the month of September 2006. The goal of the training was  to increase knowlede and skills of the youth on reproductive and adolescent health related issue and enable them to provide awareness to other youth in Kabul city. The Peer Educators successfully attended two rounds of the training and are providing the information and education to their peers in the schools and other youth gathering places.
